Ferris Hills and Clark Meadows Men's Group enjoys presentation by Tom Mees on Sonnenberg History Ferris Hills and Clark Meadows Men's Group enjoys presentation by Tom Mees on Sonnenberg History KristenMeyer / Wednesday, July 30, 2025 0 3066 Ferris Hills resident Tom Mees recently gave a fascinating presentation on the history of Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park to our men's group. With a deep appreciation for local history and a true gift for storytelling, Tom had the audience captivated by his knowledge of this local gem. In addition to sharing historical insights, Tom enocuraged anyone interested in volunteering at Sonnenberg to get involved - help is always welcome! One interesting question came up during the discussion: How did Sonnenberg get its name? Tom explained that "Sonnenberg," meaning Sunny Hill in German, was the postal name of the property when it was purchased. Fittingly, the estate sits at the crest of Fort Hill Avenue. Tom also shared the story of how Fred and Mary Thompson met: at Mary's father's farewell banquet ball in Albany, NY. At the time, her father was serving as Governor of New York State. It was love at first sight. Just six months later, Fred and Mary were married in the Clark family home, located behind the United Church on Gibson Street. Read more

Lynne Standish / Friday, April 22, 2022 / Categories: Clark Meadows Blog Happy 100th Birthday! Mary "Bernice" Frame celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday, April 22nd. She grew up on a farm in Victor, NY and enjoyed playing with the neighbor children and chasing the chickens! Her grandfather would pick them up in his horse and buggy and drop them off at the school on Main Street in Victor. Bernice attended hairdressing school and worked in Rochester for awhile. She eventually took a job in Victor as a switchboard operator where she was happy to be able to walk to work. Together with her sister, they loved to dance, and attended every dance they could. Her brother in law set her up with his cousin, Mark, and the rest was history. They were married in 1947 at St. Patrick's Church in Victor. They had five children and they all grew up in Victor. A very exciting time for Bernice, was when she met President Reagan at a White House Christmas Party. Bernice will also be featured on the Today Show's Smucker's Celebration of her 100th birthday. We are happy to have been a part of her 100th birthday celebration here at Clark Meadows. When asked what the secret to making it to 100 was, she said simply "just be a good person."
