A Journey to New Zealand through the memories shared by Jane Kinyoun! A Journey to New Zealand through the memories shared by Jane Kinyoun! KristenMeyer / Monday, May 26, 2025 0 1445 At Clark Meadows we have been doing a travel series hightlighting a different country each month. This May, we are exploring Australia and New Zealand. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to hear from one of our own, Jane Kinyoun. Jane had a second career that spanned 15 years working as a tour guide throughout Australia and New Zealand. Her story is one of resilience, reinvention, and remarkable adventures. It took some coaxing, but she agreed to allow us to shine a spotlight on her. She shared her stories and told us all kinds of interesting tales about life as a tour guide and the wonders of New Zealand. We tasted kiwi fruit and Marmite on crackers! The New Zealand wine made the marmite go down a little easier. It just so happened to be a Constellation wine made in New Zealand (always fun to have a local connection). It was interesting to hear from one of our residents about all the unique aspects of a country far away. Her pictures were fun, seeing her in her younger years taking care of all the tourists. She had interesting tidbits in her presentation about the kiwi bird, the kea bird, the NZ possum, winding roads with beautiful vistas, helicopter rides over the the glaciers, and bungie jumping! When a resident shares their experiences we all are enriched! Thank you Jane! Read more

Claire Watson / Saturday, April 11, 2020 / Categories: Senior Living Community Events, Ferris Hills Blog Life Continues at Ferris Hills Covid-19 has certainly thrown the world off track and we are all trying to adapt to a new (temporary) normal. Ferris Hills is no different. There is a different pace of life, but that does not mean it has all stopped. Our community in-house channel has kept staff in communication with residents on a daily basis. Residents are joining in with trivia, puzzles and competitions via paper submission with prizes being won. Some have established new pen-pals with local children and students, others have worked on old hobbies. Staff have helped set up Zoom, Skype and FaceTime calls with family and friends which has been a great education along with raising spirits. The Fitness Center is open for individual use, residents are taking advantage of the community trail, and a daily exercise program and stretch class are broadcasted to resident's apartments. There is no excuse to stay still! Although the dining room is closed the kitchen is open with the full menu and specials being offered for lunch and dinner with room service delivery. Instacart is being utilized for grocery needs and our own driver is running errands along with family members to keep our residents out of the danger zone. We are looking forward to being together with family and friends, but know at the moment we are safer apart. Remember we are one day closer to being back to normal. Stay safe!
