A Journey to New Zealand through the memories shared by Jane Kinyoun!

At Clark Meadows we have been doing a travel series hightlighting a different country each month.  This May, we are exploring Australia and New Zealand.  It seemed like a perfect opportunity to hear from one of our own, Jane Kinyoun.  Jane had a second career that spanned 15 years working as a tour guide throughout Australia and New Zealand.  Her story is one of resilience, reinvention, and remarkable adventures.

It took some coaxing, but she agreed to allow us to shine a spotlight on her.  She shared her stories and told us all kinds of interesting tales about life as a tour guide and the wonders of New Zealand.  We tasted kiwi fruit and Marmite on crackers!  The New Zealand wine made the marmite go down a little easier.  It just so happened to be a Constellation wine made in New Zealand (always fun to have a local connection). It was interesting to hear from one of our residents about all the unique aspects of a country far away.  Her pictures were fun, seeing her in her younger years taking care of all the tourists.  She had  interesting tidbits in her presentation about the kiwi bird, the kea bird, the NZ possum, winding roads with beautiful vistas, helicopter rides over the the glaciers, and bungie jumping! When a resident shares their experiences we all are enriched!   Thank you Jane!

Bird Watching with DEC Educator and Bird Enthusiast, Kathy Kirsch

Clark Meadows residents were out on a bird walk with Dawne Gould's daughter, Kathy Kirsch.  Kathy is an expert bird watcher who can identify the bird calls, bird sightings and bird behaviors as well as plant species.  We enjoyed our natural surroundings with our own conservation expert.  She'll be back on May 19th for another bird walk.  Thank you Kathy!

Keep On Keeping On....

Keep On Keeping On....

We all remain fit and healthy at Ferris Hills and Clark Meadows which we put down to 'following the rules' and laughing every day.

Our residents are keeping in contact with one another, seeing faces as they get their morning coffee, making the most of shopping at the onsite store and moving as much as possible.

The fitness center signup sheet is being put to good use to allow plenty of time to workout and the trails are being used daily, especially as the weather improves.

We have all noticed an increase in birds which has been great for our avid bird watchers!  This is just another reason for people to get out and enjoy the beautiful grounds.

The staff are always coming up with ideas to keep a smile on people's faces, the latest is from one team member who had flower cookie cutouts made for all 130 residents which were delivered door to door with a lovely message.

We know the residents appreciate the effort being made and they thanked everyone by making and hanging a huge banner with all staff names, we know how much time must have went in to doing this and it was very well received.

I'm not sure who needs whom more at the moment, staff or residents, I just know we are getting through this together and there is no place we would rather be.
