Dorothy Lander Shares Letters and Pictures from Floridian First Graders! Dorothy Lander Shares Letters and Pictures from Floridian First Graders! Sharing Finger Lakes Foliage with Young Floridians turns into a Treasure of Letters and Drawings! KristenMeyer / Thursday, March 27, 2025 0 2878 Last Fall, Dorothy (Dot) Lander collected a box of colorful leaves and sent them to her daughter, Janet, who is a 1st grade teacher in Florida. Janet's students, many of whom had never been exposed to the beautiful Fingerlakes colors, responded in a most thoughtful way. They drew pictures and composed letters. Dot was so surprised and overcome with joy when she opened the package. These pictures and letters have been displayed in the CM living room this week for all CM residents, staff, families and visitors to enjoy! A big thank you to Dot for sharing with all of us. We have been in awe of the thoughful messages, the drawings, and the amazing penmanship coming from such young children. Read more

Soup's On! Soup's On! All Delicious and All Homemade by Our Staff! KristenMeyer / Tuesday, January 14, 2025 0 5195 The Clark Meadows/Ferris Hills Kitchen staff set a high bar in the culnary department. They provide an excellent menu offering healthy delicious meals every day. In an effort to change things up a bit, the staff who do not work in the kitchen wanted to share some of their soup recipes with our residents. The residents were eager to taste and we were honored to have our head chef, Tony Cafarelli, sous chef, Dan Cobb, and long-time dining associate, Brittni Hewitt, come in at the end to critique our soups. They gave us all gold stars! The Soup Bar Lunch included Melissa's Tomato, Basil & Orzo soup, Beth's Butternut Squash, Kristen's Black Bean, Claire's Steak & Potato, Dave's Pasta Fagioli, Rebecca's Meatball Stew w/Orzo & White Beans, and Jenn's Stuffed Pepper Soup. Thank you all for helping with this Soup Bar lunch special. It was a success! Read more
Margaret / Tuesday, June 6, 2017 / Categories: Ferris Hills Events, Senior Living Community Events, Ferris Hills Blog String Quartet At Ferris Hills Provides Private Concert, Sneak Preview “Entertain, inspire, and nurture an appreciation for classical music”. This is the mission of the Geneva Music Festival organizers. Residents of Ferris Hills were treated to these three tenets and more on Wednesday, May 24 during a special private concert, which was provided by one of the upcoming Festival’s featured acts. The string quartet kicked off their summer concert season with a free preview performance for our community. During the Geneva Music Festival (and beyond), the public will pay at least $25.00 per ticket to see the same performance which our residents enjoyed. The quartet consists of Geoffrey Herd and Eliot Heaton, violins; Eric Wong, viola; and Max Geissler, cello. The group has performed in concert venues around the world, and is currently in the process of recording works for composers such as Narong Prangcharoen and Carter Pann. These four musicians played to a full house while residents swayed in time with the melodic songs. Concert attendees were treated to delightful pieces such as: Haydn String Quartet in D Major, Op. 94 "The Lark" John Corigliano Snapshot: Circa 1909 Schubert String Trio in B Flat Major 451, and Dvorak String Quartet in F Major "American" Op. 95 In a senior living community that is renowned for high-quality healthcare and wellness, it makes perfect sense that Ferris Hills would provide this valuable community activity – music as therapy. This quartet brought the gift of music to residents who cannot attend concerts, but certainly enjoy and appreciate the exposure to live music. The enjoyment of the day went beyond the music – as the packed concert room was full of buoyant social interactions and conversation. Listening to soothing music such as this has been proven to reduce tension, diminish pain, and improve recovery time. It can improve memory recall and enhance cognitive awareness. Lastly, listing to music promotes relaxation and is an instant mood-enhancer. The dividends of bringing such an enjoyable activity to Ferris Hills go well beyond the audible entertainment. If you’d like to follow the concert tour of this quartet or attend other renowned performances, take a look at the Geneva Music Festival lineup at www.genevamusicfestival.com.
